We all need to boycott Chinese products, okay I get it! but do you really know where did word boycott came from? Today if you search the Meaning of the word Boycott, it means refuse to buy anything or withdraw any relation with country, organisation or a person.

This word in the dictionary came from a British soldier’s name, Captain Charles Cunningham boycott. After he retired, he became land agency’s manager. His duty was to collect annual rent from the farmers of the farms given on rent. In 1880, due to major loss in farming business, the farmers requested to reduce rent by 25%. The rent reduction request was reasonable according to owner of the estate: named Umrao, but hard headed Charles gave promise to Umrao, that he will collect full rent from the farmers. Farmers were firm to their decision, so with help of 900 soldiers and fifty labours,

Charles harvested the crop as a punishment of not paying the full rent. The farmers couldn't fight back for this action of Charles, but they did social ostracism of Charles boycott and his family to the point where he had to leave from Ireland. that is why the word boycott came in to the dictionary because of Charles Boycott.
